Georgia Pacific becomes a sponsor for C2P Community Academic Service Entrepreneur grants (CASE) for Ga. Pacific scholarship recipients starting Fall 2009.

Students care at stroke camp in Portland
The program, which was started in 1999, recently won the Campus Community Partnership Award In April, former first lady Rosalynn Carter presented the award herself to faculty responsible for the camp. With the recognition came $10,000 for the program.

A junior and a sophomore student at East Wake Academy in North Carolina have won CASE grants for city park restoration, and student engagement in senior managed care facility.

Carter Award at Portland State University, Oregon April 2009
Carter Award will be presented at the Simon Benson Award Dinner April 7, 2009. The award winning community-university partnership teams will be awarded $10,000 and $5,000 each will be awarded to two partnerships as runners-up.

Carter Academic Service Entrepreneur Grant winners announced at Panjab University, Chandigarh, India Jan. 23, 2008
Following three programs have qualified as CASE winners. All proposals will receive individual grants to implement the projects, and a Certificate of Merit signed by President Jimmy Carter and Mrs. Carter.

  • Early Childhood: “Bachpan: The Foundation of an Individual’s Personality”
  • Environment: “Conserving the Traditional Water Resources: for the Remote Villages in Panjab”
  • Socio-Economic Development: “Waste Newspapers: A Lifeline for the Slum Children”

Campus Community Partnership & Social Entrepreneurship

The foundation recognizes the best practices in campus-community partnership programs and innovative ideas for student-led service learning projects to address the needs of the community. Awards are given to the best campus-community partnership programs, and grants are given for social entrepreneurship linked to student's academic discipline. ServiceBook.org administers the awards and the grants and is an online connectivity for students, faculty, and community. more »

The Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Partnership Award for Campus-Community Collaboration Certificate Campus Community Partnership Award
This award recognizes the best practice of a campus community partnership program in which there is a shared decision making and academic integration of service. Winners receive a Partnership Trophy and Certificate of Excellence in Academic Service Learning from the foundation. (right)

This is a competition for social entrepreneurs in which students submit innovative proposals to effectively address the needs of the community and the winners receive a grant to implement their project under faculty supervision. (right)

Examples of grants given to students for projects in countries like Germany, South Africa, the United Kingdom and the US.

  • A solar-powered autoclave sterilizer developed by a mechanical engineering student for a remote village which does not have electricity.

  • Hydraulic design and a water treatment plan to supply portable water in areas with unsafe drinking water.

  • Student using robotics to expose inner city students to science and mathematics.

  • Developing an art project to address the emotional needs of children in homeless shelters.

  • Student engaged in a micro finance project to help a developing community keep it's capital in the local community and helping to make it grow.

  • College student teaching reading skills to elementary school children and serving as a mentor.

  • Student helping inner-city youth to develop employment skills.
